My foray into video making was a self-imposed challenge. My work had usually been hands-on, materials-based, process-oriented; and in concept or in fact: occupying our same three-dimensional space. Video seemed completely contrary to that: Ephemeral, an illusion, based on light and movement,  the process often hidden from the viewer. My aim was to create a video without a narrative, without a distinct beginning or end, but instead, looped eternally. The idea  was to look at time by creating scenes with constant movement, but where nothing changed. Time perpetually moves on And time ceases in the same video. It becomes a meditation.

Crossing, 2011
Shot from the Manhattan Bridge on the D train early Sunday morning.

Maine Dawn, 2008

Shot on Sheepscot Bay, from Westport Island. The first waves were created by lobster boats leaving the harbor.
Ominous Clouds, 2010
Shot near Ulm, Wyoming while on a residency at Ucross.
White Curtain, 2007
My first video. No further than my bathroom in Brooklyn New York.  curtains on a summer’s afternoon, with a light, steady breeze.
Seltzer Man, 2012
Shot in Canarsie, Brooklyn, at the Gomberg Seltzer Work. The machine is an 100-year-old, London-made Barnett & Foster siphon filler. The man is in his twenties.
Summer River Dawn, 2008
Shot on the Delaware River in Buck’s County Pennsylvania, where under specific conditions a morning mist and the river moves in opposite directions.  There was no overlay or altering of the images. The ducks were pure chance.
